   Ronald E. Thorton, 69, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at Saint Anthony's Hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease.

    Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29. Pastor David Crowley will be officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

    Ronald was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Alton to Orville and Geraldine (Schifflett) Thorton. He graduated from Alton High School in 1960 and attended the SIU Alton Campus. After serving three years in the U.S. Army, he went on with a career in banking and in more recent years as a sales representative for Illinois Wholesale Furniture Company in East Alton. His greatest passion was working on computers and visiting with his friends at the Alton Motor Boat Club.

   He is survived by his sister, Donna Halford and her husband, Philip, of Waco, Texas; a niece, Heather White, and her husband, Brian, along with three grand-nieces, Hayden, Campbell and Rory Jayne.

   The family extends thanks to the nurses at St. Clare's and St. Anthony's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.Online condolences and guestbook may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.

Kay Parkins (Overath-Durham)

Ronnie was very special to our family. We shared many good times all through our lives. He was one of Larry's best friends. May all the family be at peace &remember all the wonderful memories. Our love to allespecially Donna & Phi. Kay( Parkins ) Overath-Durham

Sandy Dunbar (Czerny)

I remember Ron from school but best remember him from the bank and when he worked at the furniture store.  My prayers go out to all the family, I am sure he will be missed.  Sandy Dunbar Czerny
